Oatmeal

As I was enjoying a hearty bowl of Quaker® Instant Oatmeal this morning, I noticed the package advertises that, among their many benefits, eating said oats is a "healthy way to remove cholesterol." That got me thinking…what are the unhealthly ways of removing cholesterol?

Some possibilities include:

  • Smoking crack cocaine
  • Having unprotected sex with multiple anonymous partners
  • Being mauled by rabid pitbulls
  • Illegally downloading copyright-protected media
  • Self-flagellation
  • Licking a hobo
  • Using a butter knife and a pipe cleaner
I think I’ll stick with the oats.

  1. those ways are unhealthy…?btw, how do you get the copyright symbol? someone told me the other day but it didn’t work :(

  2. Thanks for your comment. There are a couple of ways to get special symbols. One option is to use the Character Map (a standard Windows accessory), which can be found in the Accessories group on the Start menu, Find the symbol you want, and click copy to put it on the clipboard. The other method is to hold Alt and type the character code using the numeric keypad. For instance, to get the copyright symbol, you hold the Alt key and enter 0169 on the number keypad (don’t forget the 0). Every symbol has its own unique code.

  3. @ Bob – Aye, it’s good for kicks, but not an effective way to reduce cholesterol.@ Jen – You can see most of the common symbol codes within the Character Map when you have the symbol selected (keystroke in the lower-right corner of the window). It’s helpful to memorize a few that you’re likely to need from time to time. All of the really useful ones are between 0160 and 0255.

  4. Thanks, Greg. I go between two of the Maps, the one within Accessories via the programs list and the other, better one, on Word. They are very good.
